When a park session needs the council's approval
Gladstone Regional Council separates small sessions from bigger ones. Its page on commercial activities on council land lists personal training sessions where five individuals or less are participating among the activities that need no commercial activity approval. Bootcamps and other commercial fitness activities do need one. Annual approvals are renewable and run out on 30 June each year, and short-term approvals last for up to three months. So one-on-one or partner training in a park is simple, and a trainer running a larger group should have the paperwork.
Fitness stations in ten parks
Through its Healthy Active Gladstone Region initiative the council has installed fitness equipment in 10 parks. In Gladstone you will find stations at Emmadale Park and the Family Fun and Fitness Trail. Tannum Sands has Garnet Park, Canoe Point Wetlands and Heron Park, and Calliope has Bunting Park, Hazelbrook Park and Monterey Way Park. The Family Fun and Fitness Trail on Glenlyon Road in South Gladstone has a cluster of stations in the park, plus more along the trail itself.
Trails along Police Creek
The Round Gladstone Trail gives runners and walkers some variety (Gladstone Regional Council). Its Winery Circuit is a 2.5km loop that lies entirely in the Police Creek Environmental Reserve. Trails 2 and 3 both start on Haddock Drive and run for about 3km each along the banks of the creek. A trainer can turn a loop like that into intervals or a steady conditioning walk.
A young city with early starts
Half of the 45,185 people counted in Gladstone in 2021 were 36 or younger (ABS QuickStats). If shift work sets your week, say which days and hours you are free on the request form, and ask about outdoor sessions timed around your roster.
