A younger regional city
Wagga Wagga's median age at the 2021 Census was just 36, among 57,003 people in the urban area. About 28.1%, by our count of the Census age groups, were between 20 and 39. If you are fitting exercise around shift work, study or small children, note it on the form so the trainer can offer early or late times.
The Wiradjuri Trail and the Wollundry Loop
The NSW Government describes the Wiradjuri Trail as about 42 kilometres of walking and cycling, circling much of the city past riverbanks and hilltops. Part of it, the Wollundry Loop, is 12.1 kilometres and follows the Murrumbidgee River and the edge of Wollundry Lagoon. You might start on a flat section of the loop with a trainer and work up to the hillier parts as your fitness grows. Say whether you would rather walk or ride, since the trail is built for both.
Parks, reserves and council eligibility
When a session moves onto a park, reserve or other community land, the trainer may need council approval to engage in a trade or business there. The national ABLIS register records this approval for Wagga Wagga City Council, made under the Local Government Act 1993, uses outdoor fitness training as its example and sends anyone unsure about eligibility straight to the council. Whether the trainer has checked is a fair thing to raise at your first chat.
Other ways to train
Prefer four walls to a riverbank? Ask for one-on-one personal training in your own lounge room in Kooringal or Lake Albert, or find a mate in Estella to join you through partner and small group training.
Wagga Wagga questions
Can I train on the Wiradjuri Trail?
The trail is made for walking and cycling, so a brisk walk or a ride with a trainer can suit it. If a session stops in a council park or reserve along the way, the council's approval for trade on community land may come into it, so ask the trainer.
Is the Wollundry Loop a good first goal?
At 12.1 kilometres it is a long way for a beginner, so a trainer may suggest walking part of it first and adding distance over time. Note your starting point on the request form, whether you live in Turvey Park, Tolland or Glenfield Park.
