More than 40 km of shared paths
The Yahna Gurtji Shared Path Network, whose name means "Come walk with me, friend", starts at Jordan's Bend in the north of Shepparton and follows the Goulburn River south to the city centre and Victoria Park Lake. From the lake it branches west to Mooroopna and south to Kialla Lakes. The council says more than 40km of sealed pathways run through areas of natural beauty.
For a trainer, a network like this opens up walking intervals, a jog between stations or a long easy loop to finish. For you, the same route is waiting on the days you train alone.
Equipment in Western Park
As the council reported in 2018, free outdoor fitness equipment was installed in Western Park at Victoria Park Lake. The release listed a seated push and pull, a sit-up bench, a leg press and swing board, a rowing machine and a sky runner or elliptical trainer. Things may have changed since then, so a trainer who knows the park is the best guide to what is there today.
Knowing how far you have gone
As the council reported in 2016, permanent markers went in at one kilometre spacing on the Victoria Park Lake pathway, for anyone who wants to track their distance while walking or running. If you are aiming to walk further or take up running, a marked loop makes each step forward easy to see.
