Training at home in Bunbury

Of the occupied homes the ABS counted in the Bunbury urban area in 2021, 85.5% were separate houses, across a population of 76,452. With that much room to work with, home sessions are an easy option for plenty of people here: a trainer can set up in a garage, a lounge room or the yard. Mobile personal training explains how it runs.

The City's approval for outdoor fitness

A trainer who wants to use City of Bunbury property or land for group sessions, fitness coaching or personal training needs the City's Group Fitness and Personal Training Approval, according to the Australian Government's business licence register. The City may ask for public liability insurance, professional indemnity insurance, approved industry qualifications or peak body membership and first aid certification. It can also restrict the type of activity, the hours and the location, under its Public Places and Local Government Property Local Law 2020.

Small groups on the City's ovals

The same listing includes a stationary licence for 20 or fewer participants in one location, which covers personal training, group fitness and yoga. The City tags several of its sportsgrounds for hire as suitable for fitness and exercise, among them Bunbury Recreation Ground on the corner of Symmons Street and Ocean Drive, Hands Oval, P.C Payne Park and Kelly Park. A small group on one of those grounds is a sociable way to train; see partner and small group training.

A new path on the foreshore

At the Frank Buswell Foreshore, the City has turned the old concrete footpath into a three-metre-wide red asphalt shared path between King Road and Albert Road, and the project will also include exercise equipment. Once that is in, a walk along the path with stops at the equipment could make a simple session in the fresh air.

Bunbury questions

Do I need to sort out the City's approval myself?

No, the approval is for the trainer to arrange. It is still sensible to ask them, before your first outdoor session, whether they hold it for the park or oval you plan to use.

Which areas does the Bunbury page cover?

Bunbury and nearby suburbs and towns such as Australind, Eaton, Dalyellup, Carey Park and College Grove. Enter your suburb on the request form and we pass it to one local personal trainer.
