At the 2021 Census Carindale had 16,535 residents and a median age of 43, five years older than Queensland as a whole. By our count of the age rows, 19.8% were 65 or over. Separate houses made up 88.7% of dwellings and the average household had 2.8 people, which is the opposite of the inner city: there is a backyard, a garage and often a family schedule to work around. Many people here choose training at home for exactly that reason.
The recreation reserve
Carindale Recreation Reserve is home to koalas and other native wildlife, and the council has started initial works on its upgrade: realigned shared paths and a new two-lane entry from Cadogan Street, running from mid-May 2026 to late 2026. The final concept plan adds fitness and agility equipment, picnic shelters and riding spaces when funding allows. Expect some closures while the work is on, including the Bedivere Street access and car park in late September and October 2026.
Minnippi Parklands
Over the suburb boundary in Carina and Tingalpa, Minnippi Parklands covers 90 hectares with lagoons, access to Bulimba Creek, an outdoor gym, sporting fields and a 1.6 km loop to ride or run. It is open around the clock with free parking on site, and a trainer can pair the gym equipment with the loop for a full session without any kit in the car.
Outdoor gyms across the city
The council counts more than 170 outdoor gyms in Brisbane parks, linked by bikeways and shared paths. If one sits closer to your street than Minnippi, a trainer can show you a routine on it and leave you to repeat it between sessions. Paid sessions in a council park need the council's permission, which is the trainer's job to arrange.
